Title: My Private Blog: A Young Woman's Wish for a Smaller Menu

Author: Marci Crane

Article:
I know that when you start your own private blog it is no easy
matter. To tell the honest truth, deciding what to focus your
private blog on is like eating out at the Cheesecake
Factory (i.e. the Colossus of restaurant confusion and happy
decadence).1 When the waitress hands you the menu and you
realize it's the size of the X-Y-Z encyclopedia, you can't help
but estimate your ETD (estimated time of decision) at 3-4 hours
which is perfectly acceptable at the Cheesecake Factory
because you will probably have to wait at least that long to be
seated and you can always stop to look at the cheesecakes if you
finish a few minutes early, right?

The private blog focus however remains a difficult challenge and
a complex one. I, like so many others, have received a crowded,
scattered, and liberal education that result in many interests
and not a lot of bona fide expertise, so the question
remains...........what under the blue zenith sky should I focus
my private blog on?

Write about Everything?

Of course, I considered the idea of writing haphazardly about
everything that came to mind but most bloggers don't recommend
this as you generally end up with a confusticated journal-type
private blog that leaves would-be readers confused and writers
drained.

Considering All of My Private Blog Options

When I think about what I will write I have to admit that I have
the most to say about food and books, but dance wouldn't follow
far behind. Commentary on politics or on the people and events
that surround my life.....also very tempting. Then there is
history, essay, theater reviews, video blogs....they all make me
as twitterpated as the chapsticked teenage admirers who follow
Orlando Bloom's blossoming movie career.

What's a girl to do for her private blog focus?

After all is said and done, I decided to return to my roots. I
decided I will focus my private blog on my family. I could write
about my family for hours. They are all crazy and there is
definitely no end to this tub of ice cream ........if you know
what I mean.

Are you interested in my first private blog entry? It's about my
dad.

My Private Blog: My Dad

My dad grew up in a family where "not paying" is a virtue. For
instance, my Grandpa (as legend has it) once returned a video to
the store and demanded his money back because he didn't like it.
To tell you the truth, the story didn't really surprise me much.
My dad, for instance, saves money by burning an old mattress in
our backyard or trying to thaw out sink pipes with a popcorn
popper. He made my brother and I dig dandelions out of our lawn
with butter knives or kitchen forks. He used to drive a big blue
station wagon around and once in a while we would all jump in
and drive to Idaho with our luggage tied down with yellow rope
and a blue tarp. If the words "white trash" are coming to your
mind, please remember that as a family we have a lot of love for
each other regardless of the station wagon we used to drive in!

My dad also has an electric guitar that he calls his second
wife--it makes me jealous for my mother.

One of the things I like most about my dad is that when he
laughs--really laughs--his face gets red, his eyes get squinty
and he can barely breathe, so he makes this funny wheezing
sound. I do it too when I really get laughing, so when I see him
do it, I realize we are alike.

1 There story is based on truth but there is no doubt that I
have inserted some cheerful--or not so cheerful--fiction.
